The summer academy brings together young researchers and practitioners. For me as a practitioner it is important to have feedback from young researchers as to how reforms recommended by the European institutions work in practice. The fact that the researchers deal with different countries makes it possible to distinguish between developments specific to a country and general trends. The topics chosen for the 2012 Summer Academy are particularly relevant. Judicial reforms have not been very successful in Central and Eastern Europe and the fight against corruption remains a priority.
